Public Health England has produced findings which display “shocking” disparity in UK Mortality rates based on local authorities. Kingston-upon-Thames, the local authority which includes New Malden was ranked 11th in the country at producing the lowest rates of premature death per 100,000. With greater access to healthcare, areas in the South of England are living longer.

Around 153,000 people die prematurely each year in England, with three quarters of those deaths down to cancer, heart attack or stroke, lung disease and liver disease – according to Public Health England.

A statement from the Department of Health said the data would “provide local areas with information to help them understand their own position” and target specific health challenges. The Groves has produced this handy Infographic to help better explain what the results mean.
